Man beats wife to death for refusing to give money for liquor

Kendrapara: In a tragic incident, a man thrashed his wife to death for refusing to give him Rs 50 to purchase liquour in Gopalpur village under Mahakalpada police limits in Kendrapara district today.

The accused has been identified as Babuli Sutar, son of Khirod Sutar of the same locality.

As per the report, Babuli alias Muna who happens to be liquor addicted reportedly asked his wife Basanti Sutar for Rs 50, which he wanted to purchase liquor. As the later declined for the same, a verbal duel erupted between the husband and wife. As the argument escalated, the accused took out a wooden plank and beaten his wife mercilessly before the eyes of his two children.

After the victim died, Babuli locked up the door of his house and fled from the spot.

Later, being intimated by the Ward Member of Gopalpur gram panchayat Gayadhar Pradhan, Mahakalpada Police rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body for autopsy.

“Scientific team has been engaged in the investigation and the weapon used in the crime is seized from the spot. A case under Section 302 of IPC has been lodged against the accused,” informed Manojranjan Choudhury, IIC, Mahakalpara Police Station.

While the investigation into the case is underway, police are trying to trace the accused.
