Man arrested for raping, killing 50-year-old woman in Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore : A 35-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping and killing a 50-year-old paralysed widow in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 23.

The arrested has been identified as Bhagia Singh, a resident of Alasua Patpur village under Khantapada police limits in district.

Bhagia was working as a tractor driver at Julingia village under Soro police limits in the same district.

According to reports, the body of the widow was found in an agricultural field near Julingia village yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who had developed a paralysis, was staying with her brother Bijay Barik at Julingia village after her husband’s death for the last eight years.

She did not return to her home after watching TV at her neighbour’s place on Tuesday evening, following which Bijay lodged a missing complaint with the Soro police station.

In his complaints, Bijay said that her sister was last seen talking with the accused tractor driver.

Based on the complaint, Soro police arrested Bhagia from Bhangachatu village under Khunta police limits in Mayubhanj district.

The accused has reportedly confessed before the police that he had killed the woman after sexually assaulted her.
