Mamita Meher murder: Prime accused Govinda Sahu confesses crime

Kalahandi: In a major development in the case of murder of lady teacher Mamita Meher, prime accused Govind Sahu has confessed his crime during questioning by police. He confessed that he has killed Mamita and buried her body in order to destroy the evidence.

Reportedly apart from Govinda, three others including Sahu’s associate, JCB driver and night watchman have also been detained by the police and are being grilled by the cops.

Mamita was killed on October 8 in the college inside car, bearing registration number OD 08 K 1002, following which her body was burnt using petrol and later he buried it at the mini stadium, added reports. The same car was earlier seized on October 14.

Based on a tip-off, the police on Tuesday arrested most wanted Govinda Sahu, who had escaped from custody, in connection with missing case of Mamita Meher, informed Balangir SP through his official Twitter handle. He was nabbed from Budhipadar village under Bangamunda block in Balangir. He was grilled for the whole last night and will be forwarded to court today.

Balangir police had declared the accused Govinda Sahu as most wanted yesterday and made an announcement of reward Rs 1 lakh in his name. His photo was released as a poster by the police showing and was been circulated. Earlier on Tuesday, a charred body was found after digging up ground for an hour at the under construction mini stadium in Mahalinga. It is being suspected that the buried body is of the missing lady teacher Mamita Meher. A gold chain and a bag has also been found with the body.

The body has been sent for DNA test to ascertain information which might be helpful for the identification.

It is pertinent to mention that Mamita’s family members have alleged that Sahu was sexually harassing women employees of the school and forcing them to have physical relation with him. She was asked by Govinda to reach Sunshine Public School for a meeting following she went missing. Her family lodged a complaint with the police against Govinda and he was detained by the police for questioning.
