Mamita Meher murder case: Prime accused Govinda Sahu’s bail application rejected

Balangir: A recent development has come to the fore about the much-hyped murder case of lady teacher Mamita Meher in Odisha, the bail application of prime accused Govinda Sahu has been rejected.

Reportedly, the Kantabanji Additional District Judge (ADJ) court has rejected the bail application of accused Govinda Sahu. The court rejected the bail application after listening to the contention made by Govinda Sahu’s lawyer and public prosecutor.

The court upheld the verdict after the hearing of the bail application. The judgment was reserved after the hearing of the bail application.

Govinda, who is serving in the Kantabanji sub-jail in the Balangir district, had applied for bail in the Kantabanji Additional Judge’s Court through his lawyer Mohan Lal Sharma.

It is worth mentioning that, Mamita was a teacher of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling under the Sindhekela Police limits of the Kalahandi district. It is alleged that she was aware of his extramarital affair of Govinda, the president of the institute. Due to this, he had a grudge against her, and to take revenge, he decided to eliminate her.

Govinda killed Mamita inside his car while they were en-route to Kegaon from Bhawanipatna on October 8. Thereafter, he burned the body using cardboard and tyres in a previously dug pit at the mini stadium and covered it the next day morning.

He was detained by the cops based on a complaint filed by Mamita’s family members. However, he had escaped from the police custody. Later, he was nabbed from Budhipadar village under Bangamunda block in Balangir.
