Mamita Meher murder case: 12-hour bandh in Balangir today

Balangir: The Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour Balangir bandh today over the murder case of Mahalinga Sunshine Public School teacher Mamita Meher. The Bandh will be effective from 6 am to 6 pm today. The party has also demanded CBI investigation into the murder case of Mamita.

As a result of this bandh today, all government and private institutions, schools, colleges and shops in Balangir district will remain closed.

It is to be noted that the mystery behind Mamita’s missing case was revealed on Wednesday as the prime accused Govinda Sahu confessed to have killing her followed by burning and burying the body at an under construction stadium in Mahalinga.

Mamita was aware of his extra marital affair due to which Govinda had been threatening her. However in a fit of rage, Govinda pre-planned her murder. He killed Mamita inside a Wagon R car while they were en-route to Kegaon from Bhawanipatna on October 8. Thereafter, he burned the body using card board and tyre in a previously dug pit at the mini stadium and covered it the next day morning.

Some evidences was also found from inside the car, said reports. The police has also detained Govinda’s driver in connection with this murder. Govinda will be forwarded to Bangomunda JMFC court today and will be taken into five day remand for further investigation.

The police on Tuesday arrested most wanted Govinda Sahu, who had escaped from custody after he was detained based on a complaint by his family regarding Mamita’s missing case. He was nabbed from Budhipadar village under Bangamunda block in Balangir.

It is pertinent to mention that Mamita’s family members have alleged that Sahu was sexually harassing women employees of the school and forcing them to have physical relation with him.
