Malkangiri police to ‘educate’ surrendered Maoists

Maoists surrender in RourkelaMalkangiri: In a bid to bring surrendered Maoists to the mainstream of the society and help them live with dignity, the district police has decided to educate them.

Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena launched a new formula – education – to bring the surrendered Maoists into the mainstream.

“Around 50 surrendered Maoists will be provided education for six months. Later, they will be eligible for direct admission into Plus Three courses,” said Meena with the hope that the initiative of imparting education will give the former red rebels a chance to improve their lives..

The collector has also directed officials to provide education to families and their children displaced by Maoists.

The district police will also trace the unemployed youths of the district and enroll them in open schools.

The SP’s initiative to educate surrendered Maoists during the Martyrs’ week has been lauded by people of all walks of life. The Maoists observe Martyrs’ week from July 28 till August 3 every year to remember the militants killed in a gun fight with police.
