Malkangiri : Locals observe bandh in Khairput demanding BDO’s transfer

Malkangiri: Normal life was crippled in Khairput block headquarter in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday as locals called a bandh demanding immediate transfer of BDO Biswajit Barman.

Educational institutions, government offices, shops and business establishments remained closed, while vehicular traffic on the roads came to a grinding halt in the town due to the bandh.

Yesterday, the PRI members and locals locked the main gate of block office and didn’t allow the officials to enter the office. Later, they also staged a rally in the town demanding immediate transfer of the ‘corrupt’ BDO.

The protesters have alleged that the Barman takes bribe of Rs 500 to clear a PMAY work order and Rs 200 per sanitary work. They have also claimed that the officer misbehaves the locals and PRI members whoever comes to his office.

Khairput block chairperson Kumadini Kirishani, who led the protest rally, said that they would intensify their stir in the days ahead if the BDO is not transferred at the earliest.

Meanwhile, adequate police personnel have been deployed in the town to maintain law and order situation.
