Malkangiri: Bundles of Rs 2000 notes found from Maoists’ camp, 2 aides arrested  

Several bundles of Rs 2000 currency notes were found from a Maoist camp during an operation of the jawans of District Reserve Guard (DRG).

Malkangiri: Ever since the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made announcement regarding the withdrawal of 2,000 rupee notes on May 19, the common people are in a state of panic and fear so also the Maoists, who have kept such high-value currency notes.

A latest report from the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border revealed that several bundles of Rs 2000 currency notes were found from a Maoist camp during an operation of the jawans of District Reserve Guard (DRG).

According to Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Anjaneya Varshney, the DRG jawans spotted several bundles of Rs 2000 currency notes kept at a camp of the red rebels in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The Bijapur SP also informed that two men reportedly received around 8 lakh all in Rs 2000 note from Mao leader Males with the aim to help the red rebels in exchanging the notes. They were arrested while trying to exchange the notes.

Apart from arresting, the officials of DRG also seized cash to the tune of Rs 6 lakh in Rs 2000 note and 11 bank passbooks from the possessions of the duo, the SP said adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
