Bhubaneswar: A day after Odia film and opera actress Usasi Misra called on DGP RP Sharma in connection with the recent assault on her in Derang of Angul and urged him to expedite the probe process, police arrested the main accused in the case along with his son on Monday.
Informing on the arrests at a press conference, Angul SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said, police detained the main accused Indramani Sahu and his younger son Rujit Sahu last night and arrested them following an interrogation, this morning.
Police took prompt action in the case after Usasi met the DGP along with a group of members of Odisha Cine Critics Association last evening and alleged dilly-dally on the part of the police in taking action against the culprits in the case and sought his intervention.
As per a complaint filed by Usasi at Kaniha Police Station on April 23, Indramani along with his two sons assaulted her verbally, physically and sexually on April 22 night, while she was on his way to take part in an opera organised by Eastern Blue.
While police arrested Indramani’s driver Dushmanta Behera a day later, he filed a counter FIR against Usasi on April 26 and brought charges under Sections 341, 323, 294, 307 and 506 of the IPC against her. In his FIR filed at the Talcher SDJM Court Indramani claimed that Usasi thrashed him after his car brushed against her in a crowded traffic in the village.
The accused father-son duo would be forwarded to court today, said police.
