Main accused in Saheed Nagar Police Station attack held

Bhubaneswar: Launching a crackdown on the culprits involved in Saheed Nagar Police Station vandalization which took place last Sunday and left at least four policemen injured, the Commissionerate Police today arrested the main accused Prakash Tripathy.

Prakash, who also happens to be a youth leader with political link was taken into custody by police this morning for allegedly orchestrating the attack.

With today’s arrest the total number of persons held in the incident so far rose to six. Earlier, Shiva Reddy, Lipu Swain, Ashok Kumar Mallick, Amit Jena and Sibananda Nath had been taken into custody by police for questioning.

Notably, last Sunday, a dispute had taken place between two groups in VSS Nagar and a PCR van had brought a group of youth to Saheed Nagar Police Station. However, things took an ugly turn after 8-10 members of the rival group arrived at the police station and tried to manhandle the detainees.

As the cops present at the spot tried to prevent the attackers, they started vandalizing the properties at the police station and damaged TVs, CCTV cameras, flower pots and furniture. Later the miscreants thrashed the IIC, ASI and constables mercilessly in which they sustained grievous head injuries.
