Mahanga Double Murder Case: Orissa HC rejects bail application of 6 accused

Cuttack: In a recent update in the Mahanga Double Murder Case, the bail application of the six accused has been rejected by Orissa High Court on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the bench comprising Justice Aditya Kumar Mohapatra heard the full bail applications of Kailash Chandra Khatua, Malaya Kumar Barik, Bhikari Charan Swain, Kshitish Kumar Acharya, Chaitanya Sethi, and Arbind Khatua.

The complainant Ramakant Baral, son of late Kulmani Baral, opposed the bail application through his lawyer.

After hearing the arguments of all parties, the Orissa High Court reserved its judgment on February 14.

It is to be noted that BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate Dibya Singh Baral were killed in Salepur area of Cuttack district on January 2, 2021, following which Kulmani’s son, Ramakant filed a complaint with Mahanga police station. Kulamani Baral was in-charge of Salepur mandal of BJP and former chairman of Mahanga panchayat Samiti.

Based on the complaint, the police filed a case and arrested the accused people. The court also filed a charge sheet against the accused in court.

Lawyer Rakesh Kumar Mallick is handling the case on behalf of the complainant while M.K Mohanty, the Assistant Standing Counselor is handling the case on behalf of the government.
