Rayagada: In a case of failed love affair and the ensuing violence, police arrested a youth from Baladia village under Kalyansinghpur police limits in the district today after he stabbed his lover and left her grievously injured.
The accused identified as Kuruma Praska was taken into custody after the girl’s family lodged a case against him at Kalyansinghpur Police Station.
Kuruma and the girl who happens to be a resident of neighbouring Kanipai village were in love for last one year. However, it went wrong after the girl developed a relationship with another boy at a later stage. Under immense mental stress over the development, the accused reached his lover’s house last Wednesday and gave her a proposal of marriage, which had been rejected by the latter. In a fit of rage over the rejection, the accused stabbed the girl with a knife and then consumed poison from a bottle he was carrying.
While both were rushed to Kalyansinghpur CHC in critical condition by their family members the girl was later shifted to a private hospital in Berhampur due to deteriorating condition.
Police have charged the accused under Section 307, 323 and 324 of IPC and forwarded him to court.
