Lord Lingaraj forced to fast as servitors’ dispute enters second day

Bhubaneswar: Daily rituals of the deity at Lord Lingaraj temple in old town area remains suspended for the second consecutive day today amidst the ongoing dispute between two groups of servitors over a land encroachment issue.

While devotees performed darshan of the deities at the 11th Century shrine this morning servitors boycotted the rituals leaving the Lord without food for over 20 hours since yesterday.

Notably, a dispute took place at the temple yesterday after members of Brahman and Pujapanda Nijog alleged that Badu Nijog had constructed a building on a piece of Lord Lingaraj’s land near Gangua in the city. They demanded immediate action on the part of the temple administration as well as the government in the case.

However, the Badu Nijog rubbished the allegation and claimed that the land rights of the said plot had been transferred to it long ago.
