Looters snatch over Rs 14 lakh from petrol pump staff

Cuttack: Throwing an open challenge to police, unidentified robbers decamped with Rs 14 lakh, snatching it from the staff of a petrol pump on Govindpur overbridge along NH 16 near Tangi on Tuesday.

The loot took place at around 3 PM this afternoon while two employees of Chhatia Indian Oil petrol pump were on their way to Tangi State Bank of India (SBI) branch to deposit a sum of Rs 14.65 lakh. After travelling around 1 kilometer from the petrol pump carrying the cash in a bag, the duo were chased by at least 6 looters on two bikes on Govindpur overbridge for few minutes. After intercepting the duo by keeping their bikes before them, the looters threw chilli powder into their eyes and drove away towards Tangi snatching the cash bag.

Tangi Police rushed to the spot after getting information on the loot and detained the staff duo for questioning.

Investigation was underway to trace the absconding looters till this report was being filed.
