Baliguda: Locals staged a road blockade at Ranthamara village under Kotagarh police limits of Kandhamal district on Sunday demanding capital punishment for the accused, who allegedly raped and murdered a nine-year-old girl yesterday.
Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on Baliguda-Muniguda route following the road blockade.
Meanwhile, police have detained a man who identified as Gagan Pradhan.
Notably, family members along with their neighbours had launched a massive search after the minor girl went missing around 2 pm yesterday. She went missing while returning from school.
After failing to trace the student, her family members had lodged a missing complaint with the Kotagarh police. Following which, police had started a search operation in the area and recovered body of the minor girl with several injury marks from a nearby forest.
Though the accused was detained by police within 24 hours, the irate locals have demanded capital punishment for him within a period 15 days. Besides, they urged the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the deceased minor’s bereaved family.
