Kandhamal: Tension prevailed in Baliguda area here today after irate locals blocked the Daringbadi-Baliguda stretch of National Highway- 59 after death of a man along with his nephew in a road mishap near Sulumaha Ghat.
While the deceased duo is yet to the identified they are said to be residents of a nearby village.
The mishap took place in the noon while the deceased were trying to cross the NH near Sulumaha Ghat and driver of a speeding truck en-route to Baliguda lost control over his vehicle to mow them down on the spot.
After the news spread in the locality, scores of men and women blocked the highway demanding compensation to the next of kin of the deceased. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road due to the protest.
Police have rushed to the spot to pacify the protestors to lift the blockade.
