Locals block road after truck mows down trader in Odisha’s Kamakhyanagar

road blockadeKamakhyanagar: Vehicular movement on National Highway (NH) No. 53 in the district came to a grinding halt on Saturday after a speeding truck ran over a local trader at Mundideuli Square under Kamakhyanagar police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Pushpakant Sahu of Nua Alakuma village of Dhenkanal district.

Sahu, who was running a small business at the Mundideuli market area, was on his morning walk when the mishap took place. A speeding truck struck him from behind at Mundideuli Square and mowed him down. The driver of the truck sped away after the incident.

Angry locals took to the streets after the accident and staged a road blockade at the Mundideuli Square by burning tyres. They demanded suitable compensation for the family members of the victim and immediate arrest of the accused driver.

The road blockade was removed only after Kamakhyanagar police reached the spot and pacified the angry mob.
