Livestock Inspector Jagannath Rout arrested for possessing 365 per cent more assets than his income

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance arrested Jagannath Rout, Livestock Inspector (LI) of the State Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department, Kalarahanga in Raghunathpur of Bhubaneswar today on charges of accumulation of disproportionate assets.

The Vigilance team arrested Rout after founding him possessing assets worth more than 7.21 crore disproportionate to the tune of 365 per cent of his known source of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily. He had joined the service in 2008 and was drawing a salary of Rs 45,000 a month.

The anti-corruption team had conducted simultaneous raids at Rout’s property including his residence here, a three-storeyed market complex named as Govinda Bhawan, a three-storeyed building, a two-storeyed building, one single-storeyed building, and two flats in different apartments situated on the outskirts of the State Capital City. Raids also were carried at his office chamber in Kalarahanga and an outhouse at Banki in Cuttack.

Accordingly, Cuttack Vigilance P.S. case No.31 dt.06.05.2022 has been registered against him and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13 (1)(b)/12 PC Act-1988 as amended by Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018.

In course of the investigation, he was arrested today and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack. Later, the Court remanded him to jail custody till May 19.

During house searches, the following assets of Rout were unearthed;

1) 96 Plots including 86 plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar and 10 plots in Cuttack district.

2) Triple storeyed market complex located at village Raghunathpur named as Govinda Bhawan, Bhubaneswar with approx plinth area of 6000 Sqft. worth over Rs.1.46 Crore.

3) One triple storeyed building located at village Raghunathpur (back side of Govind Bhawan), Bhubaneswar with approx plinth area of 6000 Sqft. worth over Rs.47.64 Lakh.

4) One 3 BHK Flat No-401 at 4th floor, Royal Arcade, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs.37.02 Lakh.

5) One 3 BHK Flat No-301 in Green Garden Apartment, Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar worth over Rs.34.27 Lakh.

6) Double storeyed building located at village Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar.

7) Single storeyed building located at village Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar with approx plinth area of 1500 Sqft. worth over Rs.28.28 Lakh.

8) One double storeyed building over plot No-1524 (maternal house) at Raghunathpur, Bhubaneswar.

9) Outhouse located at Plot No-921, Charigharia, Banki, Cuttack.

10) Bank & Insurance deposits worth over Rs.39.48 Lakh.

11) Gold, Diamond & Silver ornaments (weighing 500 gms gold, 10 gms Diamond & 250 gms Silver) worth Rs.20.60 Lakh.

12) 1 four wheeler (Maruti Swift ZXI) worth Rs.7.97 Lakh.

13) 1 two wheeler, Cash & household articles worth over Rs.15.16 Lakh.
