Odisha By Election 2020 Results: BJD wins both Tirtol, Balasore bypolls in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) won the bypolls to both Balasore and Tirtol Assembly constituencies on Tuesday.

BJD candidates defeated their nearest rivals from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), informed Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani.

BJD’s Bijaya Shankar Das defeated BJP’s Rajkishore Behera by a huge margin of 41,703 votes in Tirtol.

Das, son of late BJD MLA Bishnu Charan Das, garnered 88,310 votes while nearest rival Behera secured 46,607 votes.

Congress candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick was placed third with 28,778 votes.

Swarup Kumar Das defeated BJP candidate Manas Kumar Dutta by a vote margin of 13,351 votes to secure the Balasore seat.

Swarup Das secured 84,097 votes while Dutta got 70,746 votes. Congress candidate Mamata Kundu managed to secure only 4,983.

BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated his party’s candidates for their victories in the bypolls.

In a tweet, Patnaik thanked BJD workers for reaching out to the people and winning their hearts.

State Congress President Niranjan Patnaik said the results in the bypolls are a setback for the party.

“The results in the two bypolls are a setback for us. We need to introspect as to what went wrong & come out with a robust road map to revive the party from the grass root. I thank all the supporters who have reposed their faith in the party. I promise we will come back stronger,” he said in a tweet.

The by-elections were necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta in Balasore and BJD’s Bishnu Charan Das in Tirtol.

The present tally of votes is as follows: 

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leading after first round of counting of postal ballots in Balasore Sadar Constituency.

Total votes 7184, BJD – 3427, BJP-2812

BJD leading after 1st round of counting in Tirtol Assembly Constituency

BJD: 3852 votes, BJP: 2774 votes, Congress: 442 votes

In Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD leading with 7867 votes while BJP is at 4557. After third round of votes, BJD’s Bijaya Shankar Das is leading with total of 11404 votes while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera trailing at 6959 votes.

After 4th round of counting for Tirtol Assembly constituency, BJD’s Bijaya Shankar Das continues to lead with 15131 votes. BJP’s Rajkishore Behera is trailing at 9505 votes.

After 4th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 14480 votes while BJP trailing at 11809.

After 5th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 18397 votes while BJP is trailing at 11997 votes.

After 6th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 21996 votes while BJP is trailing at 13882 votes.

After 7th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 25287 votes while BJP is trailing at 14551 votes. Congress has got 3999 votes so far.

After 8th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 28797 votes while BJP is trailing at 15776 votes.

After 5th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 18902 votes while BJP trailing at 15741.

After 6th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 21924 votes while BJP trailing at 19457.

After 7th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 25112 votes while BJP trailing at 22693.

After 9th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 32075 votes while BJP is trailing at 17514 votes.

After 8th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 29392 votes while BJP trailing at 25622.

After 10th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 35192 votes while BJP is trailing at 18970 votes. Congress Candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick has so far got 8241 votes.

After 11th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Bijay Shankar Das has got 38043 votes, while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera has got 20592 votes. INC candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick has managed to get 9491 votes.

After 12th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD’s Swarup Kumar Das is leading with 44510 votes while BJP’s Manas Kumar Dutta trailing at 38202. Congress candidate Mamata Kundu has got 3120 votes so far.

After 12th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Bijay Shankar Das has got 40840 votes, while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera has got 22598 votes. INC candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick has managed to get 10172 votes.

After 13th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Bijay Shankar Das has got 43954 votes, while BJP’s Rajkishore Behera has got 24690 votes. INC candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick has managed to get 10766 votes.

After 13th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD’s Swarup Kumar Das is leading with 47991 votes while BJP’s Manas Kumar Dutta trailing at 42043. Congress candidate Mamata Kundu has got 3207 votes so far.

After 14th round counting for Balasore Sadar Assembly Constituency, BJD’s Swarup Kumar Das is leading with 51093 votes while BJP’s Manas Kumar Dutta trailing at 44617. Congress candidate Mamata Kundu has got 3337 votes so far.

After 14th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Bijay Shankar Das has got 46931 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Rajkishore Behera has got 25985 votes. INC candidate Himanshu Bhusan Mallick has managed to get 12145 votes.

After 15th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD has got 50503 votes, while BJP has got 27460 votes. INC has managed to get 13344 votes.

After 15th round counting for Balasore Assembly Constituency, BJD has got 53718 votes, while BJP has got 47467 votes.

After 16th round counting for Tirtol Assembly Constituency, BJD is leading with 54290 votes while BJP is trailing at 29593 votes. Congress has so far got 14084 votes.
