Liqour Truck Loot: Dacoity gang busted in Ganjam, 10 members held

Berhampur: In a major success to Ganjam Police, it arrested at least 10 members of a gang involved in a liquor truck loot incident, which took place in Khallikote area earlier this month and seized around 950 kartons of liquor from their possession.

The held accused have been identified as Purusottam Baliarsingh, Pradeep Pratap Singh, Naseer Shah, Biranchi Kumar Behera, Manoj Kumar Kandi, Banamali Sahoo, Ananta Machhua, Banamali Parida, Pramod Martha and Jogeshwar Biswal.

Police also seized a Toyota Innova, 2 trucks, 10 mobile phones and a number of cartridges from the possession of the gang.

Informing on the arrest at a press conference Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai said, a special team of police arrested the accused after conducting raids in Ganjam, Nayagarh and Khordha districts. Whereas, the mastermind of the loot Ananta Machhua was nabbed in a police encounter in Gudidhepa under Khallikote this morning, he added.

Another accused in the case managed to escape during police raid on Machhua and efforts are on to catch him.

Notably, the gang intercepted a foreign liquor laden truck in Gopalpur area in the district on December 4, while it was on its way to Nirgundi with a consignment from United Spirit premise. Later, they looted the truck by threatening the driver and helper at gunpoint.

Police swung into action after the owner of Welcome Enterprises lodged a complaint with Khallikote Police in connection with the incident. Ganjam SP constituted a special police team under Chhatrapur SDPO Ramesh Chandra Sethi to probe the loot.
