Lion like sculpture found from debris of Emar mutt in Puri!

Puri: ASI superintendent Arun Mallick has inspected the materials excavated from the site of the Emar mutt in Puri of Odisha. The excavated materials reportedly include a lion like sculpture. He cleaned the sculpture and took its photographs. The ASI team has claimed that the lion structure related to the time of the Ganga dynasty.

It has been claimed that the said ancient sculpture was excavated while digging work was going on for the Srimandira Parikrama project at the Emar mutt site. However, while the structure is partly broken, it has been claimed that the historic heritage has been damaged because work is going on without GRP survey.

As per reports, on last May 7 the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had filed an affidavit wherein there is mention of the materials at page 40 of the affidavit that had been excavated on April 29. It has been learnt that ASI has informed the High court along with the photo of an ancient lion like sculpture. Accordingly, the ASI superintendent and his team have reached the spot and inspecting the materials.
