Berhampur: A pall of gloom descended on Bhutasarasingi village under Purushottampur tehsil in Ganjam district on Sunday following the death of woman due to lightning strike.
The deceased was identified as Tanu Gouda. Lightning struck her while she was working in her farmland in the afternoon. She breathed her last on the spot.
One Birupakhya Mohanty also sustained critical injuries in the lightning strike.
Gouda’s body has been sent to the hospital for postmortem. Mohanty, who was rescued by the locals, is also undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Meanwhile, police have started a probe into the incident.
