Bhubaneswar: Tightening the noose around the necks of corrupt officials, Vigilance sleuths yesterday caught an Assistant Engineer of Lift Irrigation Department while accepting bribe from a Contractor in Bhubaneswar.
The accused official has been identified as Satya Narayan Dash, Assistant Engineer, Lift Irrigation Department, Dhenkanal. He is a native of Kharagprasad village under Meramundali area.
Vigilance officials swung into action and led a trap to arrest Dash yesterday, after one Golak Aich lodged a complaint against him few days back and alleged him of demanding a bribe of Rs 35,000 to get his work done.
Dash was caught while accepting the inducement at his residence located at Balaji Complex in Jharpada under Laxmisagar police limits in the city yesterday afternoon.
Later, the anti-corruption wing officials also raided the accused Assistant Engineer’s houses located in Bhubaneswar and Dhenkanal to find out whether he possesses disproportionate assets or not.
Further investigation is underway in the incident and details would be revealed later, informed Vigilance sources.
