Deogarh: Normal life was badly hit across the Deogarh district on Friday following a 6-hour bandh call given by the District Congress demanding land and forest rights for the local landless and tribal people.

Vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt and schools, colleges along with other educational institutions downed the shutters during the bandh observation which started at around 6 AM in the morning. It would continue till 12 noon.

Government and private offices also remained shut in view of the bandh call starting from the morning.

However, shops and other business establishments remained open due to an exemption given to those by the bandh supporters.

Congress workers led by Deogarh district Congress president Sem Hembram staged road blockades at the Traffic Square on Mumbai-Kolkata NH-49 in Deogarh Town and brought vehicular movement on the route to a grinding halt during bandh observation. Party workers also resorted to picketing at the Old Post Office Square.

Congress is demanding homestead land to the landless natives in the district and forest land record to their tribal counterparts.

District administration has made ample security arrangements to thwart any kind of law and order situation arising out of the bandh.
