Leopard skin seized in Deogarh, 2 arrested

Deogarh: The forest department of Deogarh district has seized one leopard skin and arrested two dealers in this connection. The two arrested dealers have been identified as Prahlad Parida (55) of village under Kundheigola police limits and Pandab Pradhan.

Based on a reliable information regarding a deal to sell the leopard skin, the forest range conducted raid near Brahmanapalli village in Palsama Section under Deogarh Riamal Forest Range and apprehended two dealers.

A special team led by Deogarh Forest Officer Khyama Sarangi was formed to nab the leopard skin traders. During the raid, while Prahlad and Pandab were arrested several others managed to escape from the spot.

During search, one leopard skin and other incriminating materials were seized from their possession. The accused persons could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of leopard skin.

The special team has initiated a manhunt to trace the escaped dealers.

It is to be noted that in November, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha crime branch have seized one leopard skin near Chatani Bus Stop at Rairangapur Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district and two people were arrested.

STF is the specialized wing of Odisha Police to curb the organized crime in the State. The wildlife crimes remain the one of the focus area of STF and STF will continue its drive against the wildlife crime and criminals.
