Bhubaneswar: In yet another animal death in Nandankanan Zoological Park near here, an eight-year-old male leopard died after brief illness at the zoo today.

As per the zoo sources, the leopard fell sick on Sunday and was shifted to an isolated enclosure by the veterinary doctors for treatment. However, despite all efforts from the doctors the animal did not recover and died at around 5 AM this morning.

Following the death of the animal the zoo authorities refrained from saying anything on the cause of the death. They maintained that it could only be ascertained after the postmortem of the animal by the doctors of the College of Veterinary Science.

The fresh death of the animal has brought the number of leopards in the zoo to seven (three male and four female).

Notably, the leopard which died today has been brought to Nandankanan from the Sakkarbaug Zoological Park of Junagadh in Gujarat in 2013.
