Lawyers observe 12-hour Rourkela bandh over permanent HC bench demand

Rourkela: Normal life came to a standstill in Steel City today, following a 12-hour bandh observation by Rourkela Bar Association demanding setting up of a permanent High Court bench in the area along with special revenue district status for Rourkela.

In view of the bandh, all shops and business establishments in the city downed their shutters causing the streets to wear a deserted look. Schools, Colleges and other education institutions also remained closed to avoid any untoward incident during the protests.

Agitating lawyer also resorted to road blockade at a number of places in the city including Panposh, Chhend Colony Square, Bisra Square, Rangila Square and Vedvyas bringing the vehicular movement to a grinding halt. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the NH-143 due to a blockade staged by the bandh supporters.

The Bar Association has warned the government to intensify the stir in the coming days if the it fails to fulfill their demands immediately.
