Last date for filing IT return extended to August 5

Income Tax DeptNew Delhi:  Giving a little relief to taxpayers across the country, the Income Tax department on Monday extended the last date for filing of income-tax returns for FY 2016-17 to August 5, 2017

Income Tax returns for FY 2016-17 were originally scheduled to be filed by July 31, 2017.

The decision was taken by the government of India since taxpayers from different walks of life have been pressing their demand for extending the deadline of filing income-tax returns.

“In view of the difficulties faced by taxpayers, date for filing of Income Tax Returns for FY 2016-17 has been extended to 5th August, 2017,” The Income Tax Department tweeted.

This time, linking of Aadhaar number with the Permanent Account Number (PAN) is mandatory for filing Income Tax return, beginning July 1, 2017.
