Landslide near Koraput’s Sunki Ghati triggers traffic chaos

Jeypore: Vehicular movement came to a grinding halt on the National Highway-26 near Sunki Ghati close to Andhra-Odisha border village Kendukapalli in Koraput district following a landslide last night.

Hundreds of vehicle remained stranded on both sides of the highway as a large chunk of earth covered the road connecting Sunki and Salur Ghatis. Buses plying from Koraput to Bhubaneswar remained stranded near Sunki Ghati due to the incident whereas as buses en-route to Koraput remained stuck near Salur Ghati.

Similarly, a number of trucks carrying goods between Andhra and Odisha had to stop on their way due to the landslide which caused a traffic snarl for over five hours.

Notably, heavy rain lashed Koraput starting from the evening yesterday and brought life to a standstill in the district.
