Landmine blast near Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, ASI killed

Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP 53rd Battalion has been martyred in an IED blast in the Sonpur area of Narayanpur near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border today.

Reportedly, the martyred ASI/GD has been identified as Rajendra Singh.

Adding to it, Head Constable Mahesh was injured in the landmine blast by the Naxals.

ITBP 53rd Battalion’s Head Constable Mahesh has been airlifted to Raipur for treatment, informed SP Narayanpur Sadanand Kumar.

It is to be noted that a youth, identified as Priyaranjan Kanhar, was killed in an IED (improvised explosive device) blast at Kiamunda village under Phiringia police limits of Kandhamal district on February 9.

Prior to that on February 5, a journalist, identified as Rohit Kumar Biswal, was killed in a landmine explosion by the Maoists near Mohangiri village in Madanpur-Rampur block in Odisha’s Kalahandi district. The explosives were allegedly planted by the Maoist outfit KKBN earlier and their target was the police and not the journalist.
