Sambalpur: The lagna (propitious moment) for offering Navanna (new rice) to Goddess Samaleswari on the auspicious occasion of Nuakhai to be finalised today at 5 pm.
The Lagna will be scheduled at the oldest Sri Sri Brahmapura temple in western Odisha on the next day of Janmashtami.
The meeting will be held at the temple along with the trust members, astrologers, pandits and scholars and they will decide the lagna for Nuakhai, and then the lagna leaf will be presented to Goddess Samaleswari.
Nuakhai is the most important agrarian festival in western Odisha and is celebrated with pomp and gaiety in several districts like Sambalpur, Balangir, Bargarh, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Deogarh, Jharsuguda Boudh and Sonepur.
