Lady police officer arrested on bribery charges in Odisha

Angul: Odisha Vigilance officials arrested a lady police officer while she was taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 on Monday.

Vigilance sleuths arrested NTPC Town Police Station IIC Mahasmita Panda while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Subhendu Dash. She had demanded the cash to settle a case amicably.

According to reports, conductor of a passenger bus had filed a case against Dash and his family after they had beaten him for allegedly misbehaving with Dash’s sister in the bus recently.

In a bid to settle the case amicably, the IIC had taken Rs 5000 and demanded Rs 10,000 again from Dash. Following which, Dash informed about the matter to the Vigilance officials.

Acting on the complaint of Dash, the anti-corruption team laid a trap this afternoon and arrested Mahasmita Panda red-handed while taking the bribe from the complainant.

Further investigation into the matter is on.
