Lady PEO death in Odisha: RI suspended, Show-cause notice to Add’l Tehsildar

Jajpur: The Jajpur District Collector has placed Revenue Inspector (RI) of Aruha circle in Dharmasala Tehsil, Khirabdhi Tanaya Panda under suspension for laxity in duties in connection to the death case of Smitarani Biswal, Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Haridaspur in the district.

The District Collector also served a show-cause notice to the additional Tehsildar of Dharmasala, Sheetal Agrawal to explain in writing within 24 hours as to why disciplinary action will not be initiated against her.

According to sources, the local Tehsildar had ordered for eviction of the guest house which was illegally constructed after encroaching upon government land.

Acting on the order, the concerned RI had submitted a report on March 26, 2018 stating that the guest house has been evicted and recommended closure of the case.

Basing on the report, Dharmasala tehsildar had disposed the case on March 31, 2018.

On October 16, 2019, body of Biswal was found hanging in a guest house, named Rangashala (plot no-109). The guest house is registered to be in the possession of Rakesh Bhadra, the brother of the key accused Rupesh Bhadra .

Police had arrested Rupesh Bhadra, the husband of Haridaspur sarpanch on October 19 for abetting the suicide of Biswal.
