Bhubaneswar: The Opposition Congress will observe a state-wide dawn to dusk bandh on Wednesday protesting over the death of Kunduli ‘gang rape’ victim, informed Odisha PCC President Prasad Harichandan today.
“The Congress party will observe a 12-hour bandh across Odisha from 6 AM to 6 PM on Wednesday across the state,” Harichandan said today while attending the protest demonstration at NH 26 near Kunduli village in Koraput district over the ‘injustice’ to the gang rape victim.
“We call upon people from all quarters to join and support the bandh tomorrow,” he added.
Today, hundreds of irate people led by Congress leader and former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi staged a road blockade on NH 26 placing the dead body of the minor on the road demanding justice for the victim.
On the other hand, the BJP has also called for a 12-hour all Odisha bandh to press its demand for a CBI probe into the gang rape and death of the minor girl.
The saffron party had initially called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh in the undivided Koraput districts- Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada- tomorrow in this connection.
Earlier on the day, the BJP activists had attempted to gherao Naveen Niwas in protest, but police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse them.
Notably, 14-year-old tribal girl, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Mushaguda village in Koraput district on Monday afternoon.
