Koraput: The indefinite dharna by local MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria entered second day on Sunday here at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital protesting against the transfer of doctors, para-medical employees from the hospital to the district headquarters hospital at Jeypore.

The state government transferred as many as 50 medical staffs including 14 doctors in the first phase to the Jeypore sub-divisional hospital, which started functioning as the district headquarters hospital from June 25 this year after getting the DHH status in August 2017. The Chief District Medical Officer of the district has further said that more doctors will be transferred in phases as per need.

“People expected to get better health care facilities after the SLN Hospital and College came up here but now exactly the opposite is happening. The Jeypore facility doesn’t have proper infrastructure to accommodate the transferred hospital workers,” said Sagaria. He further added that if steps are not taken to fulfill the demands by Sunday, he would call for a 12-hour Koraput bandh.

The MLA said that the Koraput facility did not have adequate doctors and para-medical workers and now the transfer of the medical staffs has worsened the problems, the transfer should have been delayed by the state government.
