Kolkata TestKolkata: The opening day’s play in the first Test between India and Sri Lanka was called off today due to rain. Only 11.5 overs of cricket were possible in the first two sessions of the match played at the iconic Eden Gardens here.

There will be an early start of the match tomorrow, presumably at 9 am.

Sent to bat first, India faced tough conditions today as medium pacer Suranga Lakmal knocked off opener K.L.Rahul (0), skipper Virat Kohli (0) and Shikhar Dhawan (8) without conceding a single run in his superb opening spell (6-6-0-3).

Cheteswar Pujara (8) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) were on the crease while the hosts were left reeling at 17 for 3 when bad light stopped the play.
