Bhubaneswar: It is certainly a matter of pride for Odisha as the city based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is all set to host the Commonwealth Big Lunch on Friday. KISS is the only organisation from Asia which has been selected by the British Council to host the Commonwealth Big Lunch.

As many as 30,000 indigenous students and staff of KISS with High Commissioners, Deputy High Commissioners, representatives from the High Commissions of 53 Commonwealth countries and delegates from British Council will assemble for the mega lunch which has been planned by the British Council on the occasion of its 70 years of inception in Commonwealth countries.

Sources said three different venues have been prepared and 10 different dishes will be served to them.

All the High Commissioners and delegates will attend various programmes at KIIT and KISS and have the lunch between 12 PM to 1 PM, added the sources.

Apart from KISS, four other Commonwealth countries including Australia, South Africa, Ghana and Edinburgh (UK) have been selected for the ‘Commonwealth big lunch’.

The international initiative has been launched by UK Prime Minister Theresa May with an objective to encourage people to celebrate their Commonwealth connections through food. Shared meal envisages binding the diverse and vibrant network that connects over 2.4 billion people from over 53 countries.

Notably, UK will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting from April 16 to 20.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the KISS Mega Kitchen has been providing more than 1 lakh meals per day for the last 25 years on an average. It has also hosted a Grand Luncheon in 2011 with the Chief Justice of Supreme Court and High Courts, judges and legal luminaries of India.
