KISS student Mamata Dalai to get Jeevan Raksha Padak

Bhubaneswar: Eight-year-old Mamata Dalai, a student of of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Bhubaneswar, has been selected to receive the prestigious Jeevan Raksha Padak on the occasion of Independence Day this year.

Mamata, a native of Bankuala village under Dangamal Gram Panchyat in Kendrapara district of Odisha, has been selected for the prestigious award for showing exemplary courage and presence of mind in saving her elder sister Ashanti from a crocodile’s mouth while they were taking bath in a village pond on April 6, 2017.

Mamata had also received National Bravery Award 2017 from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for her brave act.

Established on 30 September 1961, the Jeevan Raksha Padak is a civilian lifesaving award, presented by the Government of India, to reward person saving lives from drowning, fire, or mine accidents.
