Bhubaneswar: ‘Gaon ku Chala Aviyan’ (‘Move to Village’ Campaign) of KISS Bahini and KISS Seva Bahini was flagged off from KIIT campustoday.
Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Development, Public Enterprises, Shashi Bhusan Behera, Minister, Finance and Excise and Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar (N) were present at the flag off programme.
‘Gaon ku Chala Aviyan’ of KISS Bahini is a unique initiative and will surely impact the tribal people, the dignitaries said. The campaign, which has ‘New Mind, New Dream’ as its slogan, will continue till June 6, 2017. As part of the campaign, students, teachers and staff of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) will cover the villages of all 30 districts in Odisha. The members of KISS Bahini will do plantation, adult education, motivate out of school children to join school, clean villages under Swaccha Bharat Aviyan, impart training on various life skills and above all make the villagers happy.
Like every year, students of KISS take up many social works in their villages during the summer vacation in May and June, when they visit their home and stay with parents. During the two-month vacation, they do activities like persuading stray children to go to school, educating illiterate old villagers, keeping their surrounding clean, motivating villagers to build toilets in their houses and training people in life skills. They are trained to do such social work as a part of their social responsibility. They submit a report on their activities after they return to the campus.
KISS Seva Bahini, which has KISS students pursuing medical education in KIMS, KIDS and KINS, is also taking part in the campaign. They will make the villagers aware of health issues and provide tips on personal and community health. More than 2,000 faculty members and staff of KISS and over 1,000 staff of KIIT are participating in the programme. They will also do social works along with students and guide and supervise the social activities of the students during the programme. They will interact with the parents and guardians of KISS students in their own villages and discuss the progress of the children and make them happy.
The KISS Bahini is formed with the 25,000 students of KISS, 25,000 parents and 2,000 faculty members and staff of KISS. Founder of KIIT & KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta initiated this novel concept of ‘New Mind, New Dream’ in 2015, and since then it has been implemented with great success.
Dr. Samanta encouraged the students, their guardians and staff to workin close coordbnation by visiting various districts. On June 4, he will join a meeting of tribals at Bhawanipatna, the headquarters of Kalahandi district.
Dr. Samanta delivered the welcome address at the flag off ceremony, which was presided over by R. N. Dash, Secretary KIIT & KISS. Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO, KISS proposed the vote of thanks.
