Khordha: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch arrested Kailash Chandra Parija (71), the kingpin of illegal miming in Khordha district last night.
Police said that the accused was arrested in Kolkata and later produced before a local court there. However, the court allowed the STF to produce him before SDJM, Khurda on August 22 on health grounds. Later Parija was sent to the Alipore Central Jail.
Police said that several gangs are operating stone crushers in and around Khordha area a without any authority or without paying any royalty to the government and thereby cause serious financial loss to the exchequer.
“Several gang members also procure illegal arms and ammunition to terrorize local people, government officials and rival gangs. The gangs also procure explosives illegally for blasts in quarries,” said an STF official.
