Rayagada: In yet another instance of the deteriorating condition of health services in the state, a pregnant woman of Talasaja village under Kalyansinghpur block in the district was carried on a stretcher by her kin who had to cross the Nagabali river braving chest high water to reach the hospital on Monday.
The woman identified as Anku Miniaka was carried on stretcher after she complained of labour pain.
She was carried on shoulder by four youths, who had to walk around five kilometers before an ambulance took her to the Kalyansinghpur health centre where Miniaka delivered a baby girl in the evening.
The condition of the woman and her baby is stated to be stable.
Locals alleged that there is neither any pucca road connectivity to the village nor a bridge to cross the river which forces the residents of the village to cross the river at great risk during the rainy season.
