Cuttack: Taking serious note of the incident where an accused who was arrested by the Mahakalpada police in Kendrapara district was found dead after escaping from the police station, Odisha DGP suspends the police station on Sunday.

During his suspension period, Mahakalpada police station IIC Shyamaghana Behera will remain under the disciplinary control of IGP CR Cuttack.

Sharma also instructed the Kendrapara SP to take stringent disciplinary action against other staff of the police station whoever is found responsible for negligence and dereliction of duty in the case.

Notably, one Abinash Paital (25) son of Sarat Chandra Paital of Balanala village was arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing mobile phone. He was in the police custody. However, he managed to escape from there.

During a search operation, police recovered Paital’s body in a hanging state from the staircase railing of one Haladhar Mallick’s house in the village.

Fumed over the death of the accused and holding the cops responsible, villagers staged a road blockade at Balana Chhak on Jambu-Marshaghai Road. Besides, they alleged that police excess compelled the accused to take the extreme step.
