Kendrapada BEO under vigilance scanner, Fled from scene

Kendrapada: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Marshaghai in Kendrapada district while demanding and accepting a bribe.

The BEO has been identified as Satrughana Behera.

Acting on a tip-off, the anti-corruption team laid a trap against Satrughana while demanding and accepting cash of Rs.20,000/- from the complainant (Retired Staff) in his office chamber at Marshaghai in order to process his provisional pension and other retirement benefits.

The accused Satrughana received the bribe money in his right hand and kept the same in the right side office table drawer. On seeing the Vigilance staff, he managed to escape from the office through backside door.

However, the tainted bribe money Rs.20,000/- has been recovered and seized from the office table drawer of the accused in presence of witnesses. The cotton wash of the table drawer was taken which gave a positive reaction.

A case has been filed under section 7 Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 as amended by P.C (Amendment)Act 2018 has been registered, and is under investigation.

It is to be noted that his higher authorities have been intimated for necessary departmental action. Necessary steps are being taken to apprehend the accused BEO.
