Kalpana Dash’s body to reach Bhubaneswar on June 2

Bhubaneswar:  The mortal remains of Odisha’s first woman mountaineer Kalpana Dash will arrive here on June 2, informed Odisha Sports & Youth Services Department on Saturday.

The body of Dash will be brought in to Bhubaneswar by an Air India flight from Delhi, the department added saying her mortal remains will be kept at Kalinga Stadium complex here from 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM tomorrow for public to pay their respects.

Earlier, Dash’s body was scheduled to reach here at about 9 PM today. However, the flight from Kathmandu carrying the mortal remains of Dash was delayed and thus the connecting flight from Delhi to Bhubaneswar was missed.

The 52-year-old mountaineer passed away at the Everest Balcony area on May 23 while descending from the summit.

Dash, who had left for Everest on April 23, had complained breathlessness while descending from the peak.

The mountaineer had first scaled Mt Everest in 2008. In her illustrious career, she had trekked many mountains conquering peaks in Europe, America and Australia, besides India.
