Keonjhar: While the district administration failed to provide any assistance to the family affected in the Bankhidi village fire even after five days of the mishap, a local NGO Jagat Janani Seva Trust took the responsibility and distributed dry food and other necessary items on Thursday.

The Barbil based NGO reached the village this morning and distributed dry food items, blankets, mosquito nets, clothes to the members of the family and made arrangements for the medical expenditure of the injured, currently under treatment in Bhubaneswar.

“As the affected family is very poor and can not afford the medical treatment they need to undergo, we have decided to extend a helping hand. Two members of the family have lost their hands and legs in the mishap and need financial assistance for medical procedures which are otherwise very costly,” Said Ramesh Sahu, a member of the Trust.

“The family lost all their belongings in the blaze including 50-60 paddy sacks bringing great distress on the family and they need immediate help,” he added.

Notably, the fire incident and the plight of the family came to fore after Kalinga TV aired a news story on January 27. Driven by the news the Jagat Janani Seva Trust swung into action.
