Kalinga Hockey Stadium In Odisha Capital To Host Olympic Qualifiers

Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar will host two matches of the FIH Hockey Olympic qualifiers scheduled to be played November 1 and 2, announced Sports and Youth Services department today.

Indian men’s hockey team will take on Russia while the women’s team will face the USA in these matches.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to express his joy after the announcement was made earlier in the day. The stadium had hosted Men’s Hockey World Cup last year.

The hockey stadium initially built with 6000 capacity hosted the state-based franchise Kalinga Lancers in the Hockey India League in 2014, the first major event in the sports. The craze for the game and enthusiastic crowd paved the way for other international tournaments. Subsequently, the stadium hosted Champions Trophy in 2014 and Men’s Hockey World League Final in 2017.
