Jumbo herd wreaks havoc in Mayurbhanj village

Baripada: With no respite in sight from jumbo menace in the State, a herd of at least 22 elephants destroyed vast stretch of crop fields in Karanjia Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district today.

As per the report, the herd comprising of pachyderms of different age groups strayed into the Sirimunipur area under Dudhuani Forest Range last night in search of food. By this morning the herd sneaked into the farmlands of residents of the nearby villagea and grazed on standing crops.

Following the jumbo incursion locals in the area are living in a state of panic apprehending jumbo attack at any moment.

Forest officials have rushed to the spot and launched efforts to drive away the herd to ensure safety of the villagers.

Monitoring of the elephants is currently underway to check their movement towards the human habitat.
