Jumbo herd tramples farmer, enters into sawmill in separate incidents in Sundergarh

Rourkela: Locals were left in a state of panic in Kendukudar village under Rajgangpur Forest Range in Sundergarh district last night after a wild elephant trampled a farmer to death.

As per the report, the deceased identified as Govardhan Lakra (50) was camping near his farmland along with five others from the village to guards it when the mishap took place. A group of two elephant sneaked into the farmland in search of food late in the night and started attacking them. While all others managed to escape from the spot Lakra fall prey to the jumbos and was crushed to death on the spot.

Forest officials reached the spot this morning and started investigation after seizing the body.

In another incident, a herd of 10 elephants barged into a government sawmill in Kalunga Industrial Estate in the district same night. The elephants were present inside the sawmill till this report was being filed.
