Jumbo herd damages crop in Balasore village, sparks panic

Balasore: With no respite in sight from the jumbo menace in the State, a herd of wild elephants strayed into Rajbandh area under Nilagiri police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday and caused massive crop damage.

The herd comprising of around 40 elephants of different ages were spotted in the farmlands located near the village this morning by some locals who called up forest department.

However, till the forest team arrived at the spot the pachyderms had destroyed a massive stretch of standing crops and fled into the forest.

The incident has sparked resentment among locals who have blamed forest officials for their negligence.
