Journalists have greater role in disseminating right information to face COVID19 crisis: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Journalists have greater role in disseminating right information to face COVID19 crisis, said Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday.

While extending his greeting to the journalists and media persons on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Patnaik in a Twitter post commended their commitment to inform and enlighten the people during this COVID19 pandemic.

Journalists have greater role in disseminating right information to face this unprecedented crisis, he added.

World Press Freedom Day is observed on May 3 every year to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day or just World Press Day to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in Windhoek in 1991.
